Electricity Issues

Strong and Stable electricity is needed in BURUNDI

The Burundi water and Electricity Production and Distribution Authority, which was created in 1962 and which operates under legislative order 053/113, continues its actions in Burundi to the present day. In addition, it is a socio-commercial company. Its mission is the capture, treatment and distribution of water, the production and distribution of electricity as well as the marketing of these products in urban centers and centers deemed important by the board of directors this missions is about almost to disappear there will stay marketing for nothing. It has always been interested in the water and electricity sectors since its creation but now the principles are not stable. Its legal form and institutional framework have evolved over time, moving from a personalized administration, then a public establishment of a commercial and industrial nature enjoying legal personality and financial autonomy, to the form of a public participation company since 1997 which began its defeat. It is under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Its share capital is set at 55.450.361.914 Fbu but this capital is not used properly because if this capital was used properly,it would make the electricity stable.

At the time of its creation, there was no hydroelectric power plant .It provided electrical energy thanks to a few generators for the interior centers, and two thermal power stations respectively for Bujumbura and Gitega. But currently REGIDESO provides electrical energy thanks to hydroelectric and thermal power plants. What is surprising is that the services are not offered as they should be. Daily power cuts, frequent water cuts. These challenges disqualify REGIDESO from its mission because, to honor its commitments, REGIDESO must produce sufficient drinking water and electricity. And the water department, through its various services, must evaluate the available sources with the aim of capturing them. We cannot say that it is the lack of capital because; from 1975 to 1992 it was a year of growth and great infrastructure achievement. With the help of the State and external donors including Germany, France, China, World Bank etc. REGIDESO created a reliable infrastructure network during this period which allowed it to supply drinking water and electricity to all urban centers in the country. In addition, from 2005 to 2014 REGIDESO carried out the reconstruction and development of infrastructure. It was during this period that it began to rehabilitate damaged or obsolete infrastructure and extend the water and electricity supply networks in new neighborhoods both in the city of Bujumbura and in the interior of the country but it's a shame to see the city of Bujumbura unlit for a long time, even a month.

See the importance of REGIDESO in daily life, this challenge could be resolved so that the country does not continue to lose.Because if the country doesn't have a stable and strong electricity is it difficult to reach the development in the country as it contributes in the many fundamentals sectors.

What if they use this capital for its use? In my opinion, this is a kind of embezzlement If this sector doesn't change there will be no development in the country.

Electricity is the main source of development in the country.Hence,if it fails working the country lost more. For this, the government should put more efforts in the domain of electricity.
